According to the original text the number given by Priscus was 100,000 ships. This has been emended by Gordon, the translator, to 1,100, as the original number is obviously far too large and the latter corresponds to the 1,113 vessels claimed by Cedrenus.15
Joannes Lydas [Lydus – John the Lydian] … says that 65,000 pounds of gold and 700,000 pounds of silver were collected. [and] … those that administered these things reveal, 47,000 pounds of gold were raised through the prefects, 17,000 pounds of gold through the count of the treasury, and 700,0000 pounds of silver, apart from adequate amounts raised from the public funds and from the Emperor Anthemius.
